Harnas means a protective shield or armor and that perfectly epitomes what Harnas strives for : To  protect the lives of animals.

The story of Harnas begins in 1978, when Marieta van der Merwe, matriarch of Harnas, recused a vervet monkey from certain death. Marieta's love for animals prompt her and her husband Nick to turn the cattle farm into a wildlife rescue centre. Wildlife in need of help started finding its way yo the caring arms of Marieta and her family.

A large focus of work achieved at Harnas is that of preserving the San culture, the most ancient in the world. It is the vision of Harnas to empower and protect the San people who work on this sprawling reserve. This is accomplished through the provision of job opportunities and education, as well as healthcare at the N/a'an ku sĂȘ Lifeline Clinic.

You can experience the magic of Harnas and its unique role in uplifting Namibia's San communities. The Ancients San Skills Academy steeps quests in an olden culture, where traditions are upheld with pride. This exceptional activity reveals the secrets of the San, from survival in the bush, traditional medicines, hunting techniques and animal tracking, to just how they lived thousands of years ago. Join the San in chanting song and dance around their homestead fire, be regaled by century-old myths and even spend a night with incredible people.

Add a luxury stay at Harnas Guest Farm yo your cultural adventure. Five exquisitely built, stone cottages seamlessly mix a beutifull blend of decadence and rustic appleal.
